Whether jazz ensemble, drumming circles, or applied music student, VWU’s Music Department offers students the opportunity to know the joys of music making and the richness it can add to their lives. Any student at VWU may register for ensembles or applied music lessons regardless of previous musical training.
Piano/organ, voice, guitar, woodwinds, strings, and music composition may be studied. Students need only to possess a serious commitment to learn about classical music literature and the technique required to perform it.
The applied music curriculum is designed to create competent musicians who can knowledgeably interpret composers' intentions by accurately reading the musical score while observing stylistic conventions respective to the historical era of composition. These skills are necessary to effectively express the complete artistic message inherent in all music.
